COUNTERFEIT SHUTTLE TICKETS CIRCULATE ON OAU CAMPUS

Concerns have emerged on campus following the circulation of counterfeit shuttle transport tickets within Obafemi Awolowo University, with transport operators tightening checks and some drivers already refusing suspected tickets.

The development comes amid the ongoing use of the newly introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) shuttle buses, part of campus transport operations overseen by the Transport Management Commission under the Great Ife Students Union.

According to an official notice, counterfeit versions of the OAU shuttle transport tickets are reportedly being sold by unidentified vendors within the campus environment.

The Commission warned that the fake tickets can be distinguished from the original through several visible discrepancies, including the alignment of imprinted text across shuttle and tricycle icons, colour tone differences, logo variations at the top left corner, and a noticeably thicker top border line on the counterfeit version.

In response to the development, some shuttle drivers operating both the regular campus routes and the CNG buses have begun rejecting tickets they suspect to be fake, in some cases asking passengers to obtain verified tickets before boarding.

The situation has led to confusion among students, particularly during peak movement hours, as they attempt to distinguish between valid and invalid tickets.

Authorities say efforts are underway to track the source of the counterfeit tickets and curb further circulation. Further updates are expected to be communicated to the university community.

Students have been advised to remain vigilant, verify tickets before purchase, and avoid unauthorised vendors.
