STUDENTS’ UNION HOLDS CONGRESS OVER TRANSPORT CRISIS, CONSTITUTES NEGOTIATION COMMITTEE ‎ By Grace Olaniyi Students’ Union Congress was convened at Fajuyi cafe to deliberate on the ongoing transportation challenges affecting students, following a 72-hour boycott initiated after the observatory week. GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION ANNOUNCES 72-HOUR LECTURE BOYCOTT OVER TRANSPORT ISSUES By Victoria Ilori  The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University has declared a 72-hour lecture boycott following persistent concerns over the newly introduced campus transportation system. The decision comes after a one-week observation period and consultations across key student leadership bodies. The Union cited inadequate coverage, shortage of buses and tricycles, overcrowding, and insufficient drivers as major challenges affecting students’ movement and academic activities. The boycott is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 14th April to Thursday, 16th April 2026, during which all students are expected to abstain from lectures. OAU MANAGEMENT URGES PATIENCE AS NEW TRANSPORT SYSTEM BEGINS OPERATION By Goodness Olope   The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has urged students to remain patient as the newly introduced campus transportation system undergoes adjustments amid complaints over efficiency. In a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju on Monday, the management said 50 buses and 40 tricycles, donated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, have been deployed to improve mobility within the campus. The university described the donation as a significant intervention aimed at enhancing student welfare and easing movement. The decision comes in the wake of widespread frustration among students following the recent overhaul of transportation on campus, which now limits movement largely to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and tricycles. CJID HOSTS SOUTHWEST CAMPUS REPORTER CLINIC AT OAU, TRAINS STUDENT JOURNALISTS By Goodness Olope Student journalists from three universities in southwest Nigeria gathered at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, for a three-day campus reporter clinic organised by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development. The clinic was aimed at strengthening ethical, investigative, and data-driven reporting skills among young reporters. The training, which began on March 24, was held at the Social Sciences Boardroom of Obafemi Awolowo University and brought together participants from Osun State University and Fountain University, alongside students of OAU. A total of 43 students participated in the programme, with 23 from OAU, three from Fountain University, and nine from Osun State University.   The Awo Times ‎Campus News | February 27, 2026 ‎ ‎GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION LAUNCHES FOOD RELIEF AND IFTAR INITIATIVE FOR STUDENTS AMID EXAMS ‎By Goodness Olope ‎ As exams kick off at Obafemi Awolowo University, the Great Ife Student Union is stepping in to support student welfare. ‎ The Office of the Welfare Officer has announced a Food Relief & Iftar Initiative to provide meals and food items for 3,000 students during the exam period. ‎ ‎The program will take place at the Student Union Building Car Park on February 28, 2026, from 12 PM to 6 PM, featuring special Iftar packages for fasting students and discounted food items for all attendees. Students must register via Bank78, submit their Bank78 username (79Tag) through a Google Form, and complete payment at the event using the bank’s platform. ‎ ‎Free credit bills will also be provided to facilitate payment. Only students who complete registration properly will be eligible. ‎
