BOSUN TIJANI INAUGURATES NITDA INNOVATION HUB AT OAU'S 65TH ANNIVERSARY

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani today, Monday, June 8, 2026, inaugurated the National Information technology Development Agency, Innovation Hub at the ICT Centre of Obafemi Awolowo University as part of activities marking the institution's 65th anniversary.and efforts to promote innovation, digital skills development, and entrepreneurship within the university community.

The commissioning which took place on a Monday morning before marking the climax of the Institution’s 65th anniversary celebration,was graced with the presence of Director-General of National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa, Members of Alumni Association, Alumnus and CEO of Chowdeck, Femi Aluko and the members of the University community.

Subsequently, the officials toured the innovation hub, where the facility's supervisor guided them through its state-of-the-art laboratories, including the Artificial Intelligence Lab, UAV Lab, Robotic Drone Lab, and ICT/Robotics Lab.

During the tour, the supervisor highlighted the capabilities of the laboratories and their role in advancing digital skills, technological innovation, research, and entrepreneurship among students, staff and researchers.

Following, an alumnus of the institution stressed the commitment of the alumni community to support the innovation hub, noting that beyond its existing infrastructure, its true strength lies in alumni working across diverse industries. He added that unlocking students’ creative energy would greatly enhance the hub’s impact and innovation potential.

In his statement, Minister Tijani emphasized the importance of creating innovation-driven ecosystems across tertiary institutions urging the representative of the Obafemi Awolowo University Alumni Association to live up to the confidence the entire university community has placed in them.

“The entire community is banking on you, although the students will play their role in terms of innovation development.”

He noted that innovation should not be seen as a one-off effort but as a continuous process. also emphasized that when ideas and inspiration are nurtured within the institution, they can grow into a strong and distinguished network of innovators across the country, capable of driving meaningful national impact.
