‎FIRST LADY COMMISSIONS CNG BUSES TRICYCLES AND DREAM CENTER  AT OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY.

Obafemi Awolowo University, on Thursday, 29 January, hosted Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for the official commissioning of newly donated campus transport vehicles, fulfilling a promise she made during the university’s 48th convocation ceremony in December 2024.

‎Senator Oluremi Tinubu, an alumna of the university from the Faculty of Education, had pledged to support the institution with shuttle buses and tricycles to improve transportation within the campus.



The donation comprises 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, 20 solar-powered tricycles, and 10 CNG-powered tricycles, all aimed at enhancing mobility, safety, and sustainability on campus.

‎The commissioning ceremony took place at the Main Bowl of the university’s Sports Complex. Dignitaries in attendance included government officials and traditional rulers, among them the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the First Lady of Osun State, Titilayo Adeleke; and Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. Wives of several state governors were also present.

‎Other dignitaries at the ceremony included the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole; and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji.

‎‎Senator Oluremi Tinubu formally commissioned the vehicles during the event. During the visit, the Ooni of Ife also commissioned and handed over the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre to the university.


‎A major highlight of the First Lady visit was also the official commissioning and handover of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre, a landmark facility commissioned by His Imperial Majesty, Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife. The centre stands as a symbol of shared commitment to human development, education, and empowerment.

‎The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Simeon Bamire, expressed appreciation to the first lady, describing the donation as timely and impactful. He also noted that the donation would greatly enhance mobility on campus.

‎The university community has expressed optimism that the introduction of the CNG buses and tricycles will significantly improve transportation on campus, reduce reliance on motorcycles, and promote a safer and more sustainable movement system within Obafemi Awolowo University.
