PRINCESS OF POLITICS: THE INSPIRING CAMPUS JOURNEY OF OKE RACHAEL

From the very beginning, Oke Rachael popularly known across campus as Princess knew exactly what she wanted. While her parents dreamt of seeing her study law, she held tightly to her own conviction: Political Science was her path. Inspired by an uncle who was deeply involved in politics and fueled by a childhood habit of reading newspapers, Rachael’s interest in governance and public affairs was always more than a passing curiosity it was a calling.
A Dream That Survived the Storms
Gaining admission in 2019, Rachael entered Obafemi Awolowo University with enthusiasm and focus. Fresher’s Week remains one of her most memorable moments her first real encounter with the diversity, energy, and academic rigor of OAU.
But like many students, her journey wasn’t without turbulence. The long 2022 strike shook her resolve so deeply that she once contemplated leaving the school entirely. Looking back now, she says with relief and gratitude:
“I’m so happy that I didn’t leave this school.”
Staying turned out to be a defining decision. Her tech career blossomed on campus, opening doors she didn’t anticipate when she first arrived.
Finding Purpose Beyond the Classroom
Rachael’s time at OAU was far from ordinary. She was deeply engaged politically and constantly showed up where leadership was needed. Serving as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Faculty of Social Sciences stands out as one of her proudest highlights a role that shaped her, challenged her, and expanded her voice.
Beyond politics, she also worked as an activist, educating students about sexual and gender-based violence. She handled real cases, advocated for survivors, and used her influence to create awareness on issues many shy away from. For her, politics wasn’t just theory, it was service.
Becoming Stronger Through the Struggles
The academic, social, and emotional pressures of campus life taught her tenacity. She emphasizes how OAU its sports, struggles, systems, and stress shaped her:
“It toughened my skin and taught me the importance of resilience.”
Looking Ahead: A Future in Tech and a Life of Fulfillment
Although known widely for her political presence, Rachael is charting a future in tech. She hopes to advance her career fully, building on the foundation she laid on campus. More than anything, she wants to live a happy, fulfilled life.
Her Advice to Undergraduates
Rachael speaks with the clarity of someone who has lived the experience:
“Remember the reason you’re on OAU campus.”
Stay focused. Do not neglect your primary purpose.
“Make sure your undergraduate days are worth it.”
You only live them once.
“Build community.”
According to her, forming meaningful friendships after university is far harder than people realize. Invest in people now friends who add value, positivity, and strength to your journey.
A Campus Icon in Her Own Right
Whether through activism, faculty leadership, or her consistent political engagement, Princess has left an undeniable mark on OAU. Her story is one of clarity, courage, and conviction. A reminder that university is more than academics; it is a place to discover who you are and what you stand for.
