On May 31st, the Dental Students Association at Obafemi Awolowo University in collaboration with the office of the PRO of Great Ife Student Union, organized a Health StoryTellers Summit, themed; The Content Cure: Storytelling As A Tool For Elevating Health Awareness For A Healthier Tomorrow.

The summit, held at ACE Hall, ICT on Obafemi Awolowo University Campus, drew a large attendance of students. It officially kicked off with a melodious recitation of both the Nigerian National Anthem and the OAU Anthem, setting a fitting tone for the event.

Moving forward, the President of the faculty of Dentistry, Idris Adebayo delivered an opening address. He welcomed everyone and provided a brief introduction to the theme of the summit highlighting its significance to the faculty, especially with the presence of Dr. Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor.

Dr. Egemba, a Nigerian doctor, health influencer, and actor, took the stage as the keynote speaker for the day. He started off with a compelling backstory from his childhood which seamlessly transitioned into his discussion on the power of storytelling in elevating health awareness in Nigeria and Africa at large. The attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions during the segment.

Dr. Egemba also introduced the audience to; Our Doc; a WhatsApp AI, which provides health consultations for people, without them having to go to the hospital.

The keynote address was followed by an engaging panel session, moderated by Gbenga, a student of Dentistry. The panelists included, Dr. Rachael Babayomi, a Dentist with over 10 years of experience; Dr. Abraham Akinbam, known as the African Dentist; Dr. Isaac Adeyemi of AskTheDentistNG and Dr. Ifeoluwa Adetula, Team Lead at Zeronoma Initiative.

The panel discussion further emphasized on how important storytelling is to health awareness and it included a lively Q&A session where each panelist addressed questions from the audience.

As a token of appreciation each panelist was presented with an award by the faculty.

The Presence of the PRO of the Great Ife Student Union, Daniel Aka was recognized alongside the assistant General Secretary of the union, as well as executives from various faculties and departments.

The Health Storytellers summit was indeed a resounding success, marked by significant learning and unlearning, enlightened minds and a reinforced understanding of storytelling's crucial role in elevating health awareness for a healthier tomorrow.
