GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION DEMANDS ONE-MONTH ACADEMIC EXTENSION
The Awo Times

The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University called for a one-month extension of the academic calendar due to challenges affecting the smooth conduct of Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
These challenges have raised concerns about fairness, efficiency, and the overall quality of academic assessment within the university.
One major reason for this call is the absence of clear timelines and regulations governing CBT scheduling, which has led to confusion and uncertainty among students.
In addition, the existing ICT facilities are inadequate to comfortably accommodate the student population, resulting in overcrowding and increased pressure during examinations.
The situation has been particularly difficult for newly admitted students, many of whom gained access to their registered courses on the university e-portal only shortly before examinations began.
This limited preparation time has negatively affected their academic readiness.
Moreover, the lack of adequate supervision during CBT sessions, including the absence of course coordinators and sufficient security personnel, has contributed to inefficiencies and heightened tension.
In light of these issues, the Students’ Union believes that extending the academic calendar by one month is necessary to address these challenges, allow students adequate preparation time, and ensure a fair and conducive academic environment for all.
